Stephen Federico

Hand-carved works in stone

Sculptor and stone carver Stephen Federico was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1967. Feeling unfulfilled after a decade spent in the fashion industry, he moved to Newport, Rhode Island and entered the School of Architecture, Art & Historic Preservation at Roger Williams University. As a student, Stephen was awarded a competitive Fitzgerald Scholarship for Fine Arts. He graduated summa cum laude at age thirty-six with a degree in Visual Arts Studies. Following seven years in the museum field and graduate work at the Harvard University Extension School, Stephen finally went on to pursue his emerging dream of becoming a stone carver. In 2007 he was accepted as an apprentice at the Karin Sprague studio where he studied under Karin and carvers Adam Heller and Tracy Mahaffey. Since 2010 Stephen has worked as an independent stone carver and sculptor. He is currently working on a number of creative projects in stone. Stephen works and resides in Middletown, Rhode Island with his partner Christine Haverington and their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Charlie.
